4 Best Eco-Friendly Brands to Try

By Victoria Robertson on February 16, 2019

When it comes to saving the environment, most brands don’t actually do their part. It’s surprising how little emphasis is placed on environmental friendliness, which is why these brands stand apart. They truly go above and beyond when it comes to saving the environment, which is why these four, eco-friendly brands are well worth your consumerism. Rather than spending your money at random, specify your spending to support brands that are working hard to make a difference.

So without further ado, here are four, eco-friendly brands to try.

1. TOMS

TOMS is a brand that most individuals are familiar with by now, as they have been around for a while. That being said, many aren’t fully aware of the extent of their humanitarian efforts. TOMS prides itself as an eco-friendly brand, but it truly stands out from the competition in many ways.

For one, TOMS gives in about 70 countries, providing resources and monetary donations where they are needed. In addition, TOMS restores sight in 13 countries, meaning they provide glasses and other necessary vision tools to those in need. TOMS also provides clean drinking water in 6 countries and even provides training and birth kit distribution to contribute to safer birth globally.

And as for the product itself, the shoes are made from natural materials and do not have plastic bottoms, making them safer overall for the environment.

2. Patagonia

One of the brands that’s least recognized as an eco-friendly brand, Patagonia works exceedingly hard to reduce their environmental footprint. For starters, this brand provides services to keep your gear working to reduce the need for you to throw it out. They provide services to repair your gear so you can reuse it, which eliminates the need for you to buy more things and eliminates the build-up in our garbage dumps.

In addition, they will recycle old gear so that, when you have to eventually throw it out, you can do so in a way that has little to no impact on the environment. That’s progress.

In addition, 1% of all sales for the brand are donated to environmental groups so that individuals outside of the company can continue their efforts at preserving our environment.

3. LUSH

Often the subject of controversy due to their eco-friendly stance, LUSH is not the most eco-friendly brand on this list. That being said, they are still making efforts to be environmentally friendly, which is progress nonetheless.

LUSH uses natural ingredients for many of their products, which reduces the need for harmful parabens. Yes, they do still use other ingredients that are less eco-friendly, but they are up-front with their ingredients list in a full-transparency system.

In addition, the packaging for LUSH products is recyclable and reusable, including the boxes that the products ship in for online orders.

One of the biggest arguments against LUSH is that they are not a vegan company, as they are not entirely cruelty-free. While this is true, they are largely cruelty-free, which is better than most of their competitors. There is still room for progress with the brand, but this is definitely a good start.

4. PrAna

Last, but not least, PrAna is a brand that more people aren’t familiar with than are. PrAna is a sustainable clothing line that uses organic materials, such as cotton and hemp, to create their environmentally friendly clothing.

But they don’t just stop there. PrAna follows the highest standards of chemical use, eliminating all chemicals prior to the manufacturing process. This helps the air and oceans to stay clean, which is certainly necessary, especially given the amount of chemicals used by other clothing companies.

In addition, PrAna uses “Responsible Down.” This eco-friendly initiative means that the company adheres to a voluntary, global standard that includes 5 animal freedoms, ensuring their down is used responsibly and with little to no harm to the environment.

And just in case you needed a little humanitarianism with your eco-friendliness, they donate to Bridge the Gap, which is a cause that aims to reduce and eventually eliminate the wage gap. As far as progress goes, this brand is a leader and continues to make strides that others should work to reach.

So what are you waiting for? Pull out your wallet and get ready to spend, because trust us, there is plenty worth buying. So take a look at these brands as soon as you get the chance and see all that they have to offer.

Also, feel free to challenge yourself to find additional, eco-friendly brands that are doing their part so that you can do yours and support them. You’ll not only feel good doing so, but you’ll also end up with some pretty neat products that will be the envy of all who see them.

Happy shopping!
